M3 tower attracts M&S, Fruit Shoot and T-Mobile 08 June 2007 Canadian wood-clad tower on the M3 attracts top advertisers and motorway eyeballs.
The Thomas Partnership has created an outdoor advertisement tower clad externally in Canadian cedar which has attracted advertisers such as M&S, Fruit Shoot and T-Mobile.
The advertisement tower, built on land at Hanworth Rd Sudbury-on-Thames, is owned by a private investor client.
It was created by the Thomas Partnership, a practice of chartered surveyors acting solely in relation to advertising hoardings and displays, and is adjacent to the M3. It features two internally illuminated advertisement displays measuring 5 x 7.5m.
It is one of several such prestige structures being developed at high profile locations adjacent to motorways and key arterial roads.
Consent for the tower's development was won at Appeal.
The Appeal Inspector's report recognised that the appellant's design complimented the architectural style of the adjacent newly built hotel and "would assimilate comfortably into the new streetscene and add interest to the townscape". He also ruled that the advertising did not represent a hazard to drivers on this section of the motorway.
Tim Thomas, founder of the Thomas Partnership said: "We are delighted with the Inspector's decision. We purposely designed the tower to compliment the architecture of the new hotel and I believe it was this attention to detail that influenced the outcome in our favour."
